Member Spotlight: ODS Engineering

75 years strong and still building better.

Few businesses can say they’ve been shaping skylines and steel for three quarters of a century. But for ODS Engineering formerly O’Dwyer Steel, that’s just the start of the story. From humble agricultural and industrial roots to a name synonymous with precision and performance, ODS has evolved alongside the industry it serves.

“We reached a milestone this year as we attained 75 years of trading in the structural steel buildings sector.”

Back in 2010, they took their first steps into offsite, helping light-gauge steel manufacturers and installers achieve bigger spans and smarter designs. That quickly led to work in the volumetric modular sector, fabricating structural skeletal frames that form the backbone of modular buildings.

Then came 2024, a turning point.

O’Dwyer Steel rebranded as ODS Engineering, marking its evolution into a design, manufacture, and turnkey volumetric provider for critical infrastructure projects, Including MV/LV Switchgear, Substation, Mechanical, Plant Skid, and Multi-Service Modules.

Meeting the OA

Their first encounter with the Offsite Alliance was at The Fox during UK Construction Week London in 2022,the kind of evening where good conversations turn into real collaborations.

“Our first interaction with the OA was via a drinks night during the UKCW (London) event in 2022 (The Fox) where we met several members.”

Since then, the best moments have been the ones that build relationships.

“The favourite moments within the OA membership for us have been the social get-togethers where we have met and engaged with new clients. Social sales isn’t really sales at all, it’s about two businesses chatting and realising the benefits they offer to each other.”

Collaboration in Real Life

If there’s one thing ODS knows, it’s collaboration. For decades they’ve worked hand in hand with farmers, developers, contractors, and offsite manufacturers, bringing practical know-how to every partnership.

Recently, that approach has transformed how they deliver for the critical infrastructure sector.

“Whilst these clients have superb design solutions, we have gone the extra mile by not only fabricating and cladding their modules, but also completely fitting out all the technical equipment within.”

Their philosophy is refreshingly simple:

“Early engagement on projects does not mean a more expensive solution, but a far better quality through design to installation.”

People, Skills & Culture

ODS has never stood still. As their business has evolved, so have their people.

“We have undertaken a lot of re-skilling within the business as our offering has expanded into a larger offsite manufacturing process.”

That spirit of growth is everywhere in the business, In the new skills, new facilities, and new sectors they’re entering. But at the heart of it all is a loyal team that has grown alongside the company.

“The longevity of our team speaks volumes for them as well as the business. They are our business!”

Looking Ahead

The next chapter for ODS Engineering is all about balance, continuing to deliver for their core markets while expanding their modular offering even further.

“Building better means building together. Move away from cost-driven solutions, further enhance design solutions, create earlier engagement and overall more cost-efficient solutions, not cheaper ones!”
