PAS 8700 is a newly developed Publicly Available Specification (PAS) created by BSI, with sponsorship from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). It is designed to support the safe, consistent, and effective deployment of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) across residential development. Developed through extensive industry collaboration, PAS 8700 provides a practical, structured framework that organisations can adopt to raise standards and deliver better outcomes.

The standard sets out comprehensive requirements for Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA), covering a wide range of construction methods, materials, and building types. Importantly, PAS 8700 takes a whole-lifecycle approach, addressing key considerations from initial concept and design, through procurement, manufacture, and assembly, all the way to operation, maintenance, adaptation, and disassembly.
It aims to offer clarity and consistency across the supply chain, helping to rebuild confidence in MMC by ensuring that projects are safer, more sustainable, and more predictable. Whether you're a developer, designer, manufacturer, contractor, or asset owner, PAS 8700 offers clear guidance to help you align with best practices and industry expectations.
