Offsite manufacturing and digital technology combined, will enable the construction industry to scale while improving productivity and quality of the built environment. However, the construction industry is slow to adopt and therefore benefit from digital technologies because of the perceived high investment costs, which is a major barrier hindered by the lack of visibility and understanding of those benefits. With the government advocating the adoption of both offsite manufacturing and digital technologies, alongside the drive to aggregate project demands, we’re to build confidence to invest in research and develop advanced technology within the industry. Digital technology is not just about BIM and creating digital twins; it is about capturing and enhancing the products and processes involved in delivering a built asset. Offsite manufacturing is built on optimising processes throughout a project lifecycle, lending itself to digital tools that can provide opportunities to improve the way we procure, design, deliver and manage built assets. We want to use the Offsite Alliance platform to: • Create awareness of the benefits of digital technologies, by promoting innovative champions, which will build confidence in our industry and investors while driving innovation further through competition. • Provide guidance and standards around what data is important, evolving process logic and identifying appropriate technology platforms to facilitate all phases of a project. • Provide guidance on delivering a product platform using digital technologies. • Advise on the interoperability of digital technologies. • Advise how digital technologies can support BOPAS and HSE. We need innovative, experienced and skilled people to join together to enhance innovation, promote benefits, educate and support our industry’s needs.
