About the event

It's no secret that the construction industry is grappling with severe skills shortages . The pressing need for skilled workers across various construction disciplines is a significant challenge. So is the changing environment that the industry is operating in. We need to ensure that we have the workers we need with the skills and competencies that are required for the future.

Many existing training programs and courses fall short of addressing the rapidly evolving demands of the modern construction landscape. With the industry advancing at an unprecedented pace, and matters such building sustainability and safety requirements and standards continuously evolving, it is imperative that our workforce is equipped with current, practical, and forward-looking education.

To tackle this pressing national challenge, the Offsite Alliance and MOBIE have joined forces with the Workforce Foresighting Hub, a program backed by Innovate UK

The Workforce Foresighting Hub is a development and delivery programme managed by the core team on behalf of Innovate UK.

Workforce Foresighting is a structured approach that assembles experts from relevant groups, to determine the ‘future-state’ of the knowledge and skills required to equip the workforce, in response to a specific challenge or opportunity.

The process assembles industry experts to identify key organisational capabilities required at various stages of the value chain in the future. The use of an AI data model supports the process, by suggesting key capabilities and future occupational profiles, which are verified by the industry experts. The associated knowledge, skills and behaviours required by these capabilities are then identified by a group of Educators, culminating in a gap analysis in the current educational provision.

Offsite Alliance Workforce Foresighting Challenge

As part of its commitment to bridging the skills gap, the Offsite Alliance is sponsoring a focused initiative on “Using a systems approach for design, production, installation and commissioning in construction”. This initiative examines the adoption of systems engineering principles, processes, tools, and technologies to enable the construction sector to achieve its productivity, sustainability, and safety objectives outlined in national strategic plans.
