About the event

To celebrate National Mentoring Day and encourage young minds into the industry we decided to bring together some forward-thinking companies to see what their views are on the importance of mentoring and how they are using new approaches to learning.

Join us as Mark Southgate opens up the discussions with leaders from Henry Riley, HLM Architects and Coarehaus to discover what mentoring means to them.

Dan MacPherson, Project Director & Maiya Fleming, Assistant QS at Henry Riley

Henry Riley are strong believers in the importance of learning and ensuring we encourage our future leaders into the industry. That's why for the last 14 years we have maintained strong relationships with local sixth form colleges and take on at least one person every year to embark on their apprenticeship.

Maiya Fleming joins us on this LinkedIn Live with her mentor, Dan Macpherson to discuss why they believe it's so important to have a mentor programme in place and the benefits they've seen over the years

Russell Whitby, HLM Architects

As a practice HLM actively participate in and encourage student engagement.

HLM Sheffield is very well connected to both the local universities. Staff within the practice lecture and tutor at the Universities including the University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam, Cardiff University, Plymouth University and the University of Liverpool, covering architecture, landscape architecture, interior design and building technology. Members of staff have also guest lectured in specialised areas such as Building Information Modelling.

Russell joins the panel to share his views on why being such a strong part of students' career paths is so important and the work they do to prepare students for the professional environment.

Scott Bibby, Corehaus

Scott has experience of delivering mentoring programmes within a large organisation (Hitachi) and then subsequently setting up an internal programme then mentors/mentees within Hitachi rail.

Understanding the importance of mentoring within any organisation is key for personal development and relationship building, since joining CoreHaus Scott has set up mentors for his leadership team and seen instant benefits from doing so.

Scott joins us to share his experience on mentoring programmes and why it's such a brilliant way to drive employee engagement and maximise business growth.
