We'll be having discussions with: Jim Cowell, UK technical Director, Algeco UK. Jim will talk about the positive approach his employer, Algeco, has taken to support the wellbeing of all colleagues in the business. Through implementation of a wellbeing policy, investment in training, support from other sources such as the provision of an EAP service and partnering with Mates In Mind, and ongoing support for mental health first aiders, Algeco are committed to creating a mentally healthy workplace with a positive working culture. Algeco aim to build and maintain a workplace environment and culture that encourages and supports improved understanding of health and wellbeing. Lorraine Shepherd - Lighthouse Regional Ambassador Lorraine joined the Lighthouse Construction Industry charity as a Regional Ambassador in 2022, with c.10 years’ experience in construction health and safety & training. Lorraine will talk about all the good work that the Lighthouse charity are doing within the construction industry, by detailing the many free resources and services available (including mental health training where she trained as a mental health first aider - later qualifying as a course instructor). Having had first hand experience with mental ill health, Lorraine is hoping to help “Smash The Stigma” when it comes to discussing Mental Health in Construction, by sharing her personal journey. Rhian Newman, business manager, Thorn Baker As a specialist construction Recruiter Rhian understands the challenges of working in not one but two male dominated industries. Having faced challenges that many people are currently tackling including sexism, bullying, and juggling bereavement with a packed workload she will share her insight, the coping mechanisms, and resources she used. Ensuring you are in an environment that is inclusive, positive, and always looking to improve workplace culture is vital, find out how Rhian she is now building a positive work culture for future leaders in the construction recruitment sector.
